Shifting Gears

Hello,

It’s been a long time. Some things have changed and some things haven’t. My hair is starting to gray (I’m embracing it, btw), and I’m still going to try to convince you to delete your social media. (It’s bliss!!) Now that I have two kids I’m home with, websites and digital design projects tend to feel like I’m taking on too much. For that reason, I’ve decided to return my focus back to photography.

Over the last few years, I was given an opportunity I never had before: to take a break. Let it be known though: it wasn’t a break from work. In the words of my hair stylist when I told her I wasn’t currently working: “If you’re a stay-at-home-mom then you’re working girl.” She gets it.

Rediscovering My Purpose

Just before having my kids, I was completely burnt out on photography. So much so, that I didn’t even want to take photos of my newborn daughter with my camera. Photography for so long became synonymous with work to me that if I wasn’t getting paid to do it, I didn’t want to do it.

Around a year after having my daughter, I stumbled across an old film camera I had purchased years back. I bought the camera, took a few photos and then shoved it in a box at the top of my closet because I was intimidated by it. I have always loved film photography but I didn’t trust myself enough to do it correctly. It turns out, I couldn’t have been more wrong. Learning film has sharpened my skills as a photographer and ultimately, it gave me a love for photography back. One year postpartum, when my life was turned upside down and I didn’t know who I was; that little film camera gave me a piece of myself back. It gave me purpose. I started to capture my daughter growing up and with that little camera, I fell back in love with photography again.

Shifting Gears

I posted on LinkedIn several weeks back that I’d be taking a few weddings in 2027 but I have since decided NOT to do weddings. My apologies for any confusion.

Last fall, I attended my sister’s wedding in Italy where I had the opportunity to photograph alongside her wedding photographer. The photos are just exquisite! I’ll share a few simply because I have nowhere else to share them! See below. Ultimately, weddings were a big part of the reason I burnt out on photography and I’m just not ready to go full speed ahead again. Brand photography, on the other hand, sparks a fire in me. I get into my flow-state where I feel like I’m doing what I was always meant to do. So I’m leaning into it.

Something Exciting

For the last year or so I’ve been working on getting some of my film and digital photography in print to sell as artwork. That’s an exciting thing to come. You can sign up for my newsletter to be the first to know about those kinds of things.

Warmest,
